Detroit Lakes, MN (KDLM) – The Minnesota Timberwolves dropped their third outing of NBA Summer League play, falling to the Portland Trail Blazers 111-84 Monday night at the Thomas & Mack Center.
Portland controlled the game from the outset, building a 58-44 lead by halftime and extending it with a 30-22 third quarter. The Trail Blazers shot 52% from the field as a team and never trailed after the first quarter. Minnesota shot just 40% from the field and 21% from three-point range. Portland also outscored the Timberwolves in points off turnovers, 18-1, and in fastbreak scoring, 17-6.
Donovan Williams led all scorers with 21 points for the Timberwolves, shooting five-for-eight from the field and six-for-six from the free-throw line. Rocco Zikarsky added 18 points and six rebounds, and Zyon Pullin nearly posted a double-double with 16 points, four rebounds, 10 assists and two steals. Trey Kaufman-Renn led the bench with 10 points and six rebounds.
Chris Youngblood paced Portland with 20 points on efficient five-for-11 shooting, adding five rebounds and three assists. Center Yang Hansen, making his return after missing Portland’s previous game with an illness, was highly efficient, shooting seven-for-eight from the field and finished with 18 points, 10 rebounds and five assists.
The loss dropped Minnesota to 1-2 in preliminary-round play. The Timberwolves are back in action Wednesday against the Indiana Pacers, with tipoff set for 3:30 p.m. Eastern on Prime Video.
