Detroit Lakes , MN (KDLM)-
A small town with a big sense of community is preparing to welcome back former students, residents and visitors for the Callaway Daze Reunion this Saturday, July 18.
Connie Motteberg, president of the organizing committee, says the last community celebration of this size was held 41 years ago. She says the reunion is a chance for people to either connect or reconnect while celebrating everything that makes Callaway special.
Matter says the entire community has come together to organize the event, with activities for all ages. The lineup includes a 5K run, pancake breakfast, a memory wall, bounce houses, tours of the former Callaway School, a parade, a classic car and tractor show, plus a fire station lunch and Johnny’s Food Truck.
The celebration wraps up with a street dance featuring music by The Fat Cats.
Nancy Matter, the committee’s treasurer, says the goal isn’t to make money. Instead, organizers hope to reconnect former classmates and longtime residents, strengthen community ties, and share what makes Callaway special with visitors from throughout the region.
Saturday evening, raffle drawings will award cash prizes ranging from $50 to $1,000.
Whether you call Callaway home or are visiting for the first time, organizers invite everyone to attend, saying, “There’s No Place Like Home.”
Guests are encouraged to bring lawn chairs. This is a cash only event.
A complete schedule of events is available on the Callaway Daze Reunion Facebook page.
