Detroit Lakes, MN (KDLM) – The Minnesota Timberwolves are losing one of their top assistant coaches. Micah Nori was hired Tuesday as head coach of the Portland Trail Blazers, the first head coaching job of his NBA career.

Nori spent the past five seasons as lead assistant on Chris Finch’s bench in Minnesota, a role he had held since 2021. The Wolves reached the postseason in each of those five years.

Nori, 52, has been an NBA assistant coach since 2009, with earlier stops in Toronto, Sacramento, Denver and Detroit, and had long been considered one of the league’s top head coaching candidates. In Portland, he replaces Tiago Splitter, who served as interim head coach last season before leaving to take the Chicago Bulls job.

In other team news, the Wolves hold the number 33 and number 59 picks in the second round of the NBA Draft. The second round begins at 7:00 p.m. Central time tonight. Minnesota does not have a first-round selection after trading the number 28 pick to Brooklyn along with Julius Randle’s contract.
