Detroit Lakes, MN (KDLM) – The Minnesota Lynx got back in the win column Monday night, routing the expansion Portland Fire 107-74 at Target Center.
Minnesota set the tone immediately, pouring in 35 points in the first quarter and never trailing by more than four the rest of the way. The Lynx led by as many as 35 points, shooting 54.5% from the field and racking up 31 assists as a team.
Natasha Howard led a balanced scoring effort with 18 points, while Courtney Williams added 16. Five other Lynx finished in double figures, including Nia Coffey with 15, Kayla McBride with 14 and Olivia Miles with 12. Maya Caldwell and Anastasiia Olairi Kosu chipped in 11 apiece.
The defense did its part as well, forcing 22 Portland turnovers and turning them into 26 points. Carla Leite and Frieda Buhner each scored 10 to pace the Fire.
With the win, the Lynx improved to 11-3. They hit the road to face the Los Angeles Sparks on Wednesday, June 17th, with tip-off set for 9:00 p.m.
