Detroit Lakes, MN (KDLM) – Detroit Lakes Track and Field coach Lisa Conzemious was voted the 8AA Assistant Coach of the Year last week. The award is voted on by head coaches in the section.

“I have loved every minute of it,” said Conzemius. “I have a passion for track and field and thoroughly enjoy spending time with high school athletes. Even if the weather doesn’t warm up it’s still great to eventually get outside and be with student-athletes and help them learn about and enjoy competition. It is fun to help them develop the skills, perseverance, and determination to become Champions In Life.”

Conzemious has been coaching track and field for the past 29 years. Along with working with the Laker varsity program, she has also ran the Hershey’s youth program in Detroit Lakes for eight years.

“She’s definitely our Swiss army knife,” said Laker coach Maggy Doll. “She’s done everything during her career. When she needed a pole vault coach a couple of years ago, she taught herself how to coach pole vault. She has worked with hurdlers, sprinters, jumpers…every level of athlete.”

Conzemius was also in charge of the state champion and school-record-holder girls 4x100m relay team this season.

“Their handoffs were perfect,” added Doll. “That can be attributed to Lisa’s hard work and dedication to those girls,”
