ST. MICHAEL, MINN (KDLM) – The Laker Girls 4x100m relay team continued their record-setting ways through the 2023 Class AA State Track and Field Championship with another record-setting performance on their way to the state championship.
Ella Paulson, Rylee Johnson, Jerzie Horner, and Abby Larson won the state championship with a blistering time of 48.65 seconds, which bested the state meet and DLHS record that they set on Friday. It was the third-straight race in which the foursome had bested the school 4x100m record.

The state championship performance was Detroit Lakes’ second of the weekend after Grace Gunderson won the state high jump title on Friday for the program’s first individual state champion since Jay Neilsen won the Class AA discus title in 2018.
Jerzie Horner finished third in pole vault with a vault of 11-00. Rylie Hanson of Mankato East won the state pole vault title with an 11-06. The recently-graduated Horner will vault for UND next season.
Rylee Johnson took fourth place in the 100m hurdles with a time of 15:15. Brooks Cina of Totino-Grace is the Class AA champion with a time PR of 14.65.
Abby Larson finished sixth in the girls 100m dash with a time of 12.43. Ashley Fisher of Holy Angels wins the race with a new meet record of 12.07. Larson will run for UND next season.
In the boys 100m dash, U of M bound Ethan Carrier ran his final race for the Lakers: a seventh-place finish at State with a time of 11.02. Thomas Lankin of Red Wing won the state championship with a PR of 10.65 seconds. Carrier will start summer camp with the Gopher Football team on Monday.
Lawson Greene finished 10th in the discus throw of 153-00. Torasbjorn Lunaas of Stewartville won the state title with a throw of 174-11 (PR).
