Terry Eiter speaks with members of the Minnesota House Capital Investment Committee at the Washington Ballpark

DETROIT LAKES (KDLM) – Representatives from the Minnesota House Capital Investment Committee visited the Washington Ballpark in Detroit Lakes, Wednesday.

The group of about 15 toured the facility in an effort to learn about proposed renovations to the park. The city of Detroit Lakes is asking for more than $1 million in state funds to preserve and rehabilitate the historic ballfield and grandstand.

“We’ve heard from different communities throughout the state on critical infrastructure projects and we wanted to make sure that we’re out seeing all these projects, like the ballpark in Detroit Lakes to see how significant it is to the local community,” said Rep. Fue Lee, who chairs the Capital Investment Committee.

If the State approves the project, the city will refurbish the wood siding and spectator benches, address ADA accessibility, improve dugouts, add a warning track and remove a storm sewer manhole that is in the outfield.

Construction is tentatively set to begin in August of 2022 with a completion date of May, 2023. The total cost of the project is expected to be $2.3 million.
