DETROIT LAKES (KDLM) – The Detroit Lakes School Board approved a preliminary levy of $8.82 million on Tuesday.
The decrease of 2.17% from last year’s levy is a decline of about $196,000 due in part to a decrease in student enrollment during the 2020-21 school year. Detroit Lakes Public Schools lost 238 students last year during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, however Superintendent Mark Jenson is encouraged that many of the students are returning this year.
“We are bringing them back, which is nice to see – high school especially, we’ve picked up quite a few kids,” said Jenson.
Enrollment in the District this year stands at 2,833 students. The final District levy will be certified in December.
