Detroit Lakes, MN (KDLM) – Detroit Lakes junior Julia Steffl finished in sixth place at the Detroit Lakes Cross Country Invitational at Lakeview Golf Course on Thursday evening, leading the Lakers to a seventh-place finish overall.
Steffl hit the chute in a three-way deadlock for sixth place but held off Thief River Falls seventh-grader Livia Harbott and Alexandria junior Brynn Kosters. Stefll finished the race with a time of 21:56:08. Harbott and Kosters finished with an identical 21:57:07.
Freshman Isla Pender was the second runner in for the Lakers (17th overall) with a time of 23:36.0. Alexandria senior Aleah Miller won the race with a time of 19:54.2.
Alexandria won the meet with 22 points and had five of the first eight runners in. Kindred (ND) finished second with 102 points, eeking out Thief River Falls’s 103-point third-place finish.
The Laker Boys Cross Country Team finished in ninth place.
The Laker’s next meet will be the Lucky Lindy in Little Falls on Thursday, September 16th. There are currently 23-teams scheduled to attend, including Section 8AA opponents Alexandria, Rocori, Little Falls, and Pequot Lakes.
