Detroit Lakes , MN (KDLM/KFGO)- Minnesota Republican State Senate candidate Austin Peterson says he’s “lucky to be alive” after he survived a rollover crash that was caused by a vehicle that cut him off.
Peterson was driving on Minnesota State Highway 32 near Rollag on Tuesday at around 6:30pm, where he avoided a head-on collision by steering into the ditch. This caused his pickup truck to rollover.
Peterson says a good Samaritan helped him get out of his overturned pickup since he wasn’t able to get out of his seat belt. He was taken to a Fargo hospital, and was treated for injuries there.
The Minnesota State Patrol is investigating the crash.
Peterson is on the Hawley School Board and he is running against DFL State Senator Rob Kupec of Moorhead for the District 4 State Senate seat. Clay and Becker counties are represented by this seat.
