Vikings Host Packers Sunday As Kyler Murray Makes Debut

Detroit Lakes, MN (KDLM) – Kyler Murray makes his first start for the Minnesota Vikings on Sunday, when the team opens the season at home against the Green Bay Packers. Kickoff at U.S. Bank Stadium is set for 3:25 p.m. Murray signed with Minnesota in March after Arizona released him, and he won the starting job over J.J. McCarthy in training camp.

He is the fourth different opening day quarterback for head coach Kevin O’Connell, who is starting his fifth season in Minnesota and is still looking for his first playoff win. The Vikings have not won a playoff game since the 2019 season.

Minnesota went 9-8 last season and missed the postseason. Green Bay finished 9-7-1, returned to the playoffs and lost in the wild card round. The teams split last season’s series. The Packers won 23-6 at Lambeau Field in Week 12, and the Vikings took the regular season finale at U.S. Bank Stadium 16-3. Sunday’s game is the 132nd meeting in the rivalry.
