Detroit Lakes , MN (KDLM)-
Work continues on the West Lake Drive and City Beach project in Detroit Lakes, with crews now moving into the next phase of construction.
The section of West Lake Drive from Legion Road to Rossman Avenue opened to traffic September 4, about three weeks ahead of schedule.
Now, crews are working on the next section, between Minnesota Avenue and Rossman Avenue. That portion of the road is closed to through traffic, and work is expected to continue through the end of October.
Over the next few weeks, crews will be installing watermain and storm sewer, rebuilding the street and putting in a new multi-use trail.
There’s also more work coming at City Beach. Construction of the new boat access will get underway soon, and crews will begin adding amenities to the completed portions of the beach. Those will include benches, picnic tables, outdoor showers, drinking fountains and trash receptacles.
Drivers are reminded to follow the posted detour while work continues in the area.
