Detroit Lakes, MN (KDLM) – The Minnesota Twins jumped out to an early lead but could not hold it, falling to the Houston Astros 6-4 on Tuesday night and dropping the middle game of their three-game series.

Minnesota struck first with a three-run opening inning, but the advantage did not last. Starter Joe Ryan ran into trouble in the fourth, when Houston sent the game the other way with a six-run frame. Yordan Alvarez did most of the damage, going 3-for-4 with a home run and four runs batted in.

Ryan took the loss after allowing six runs on six hits and three walks over four innings. He struck out five.

The Twins pushed a run across in the fifth to close within 6-4 but got no closer. Houston’s bullpen retired Minnesota the rest of the way, with Josh Hader working the ninth for the save.

Kody Clemens led the Twins offense with a 2-for-4 night and two runs scored. Ryan Kreidler drove in two, while Josh Bell and Victor Caratini added one RBI apiece.

Minnesota had been seeking its third straight victory. With the series now even at a game apiece, the two teams meet in the rubber match tonight at 7:10 p.m.
