Detroit Lakes , MN (KDLM)-
The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service and the White Earth Nation have signed a new multi-year funding agreement to strengthen their long-standing conservation partnership at Tamarac National Wildlife Refuge near Rochert.
Leaders from both organizations gathered at the refuge to sign the agreement, which supports the joint management of refuge lands within the White Earth Reservation. The partnership will combine tribal knowledge with refuge management to help protect wildlife and natural resources for future generations.
The agreement focuses on three areas: managing water levels and wild rice habitat, improving forests for migratory birds and other wildlife, and adding more culturally relevant information to visitor programs and exhibits.
The agencies say public access to Tamarac National Wildlife Refuge will not change. Hunting, fishing, wildlife watching and photography will continue, and visitors can expect to see more White Earth Nation staff working alongside refuge employees on conservation projects.
