Detroit Lakes, MN (KDLM) – The Minnesota Lynx came undone in the closing minutes Sunday, dropping an 84-79 decision to the Washington Mystics at Target Center.
Minnesota looked to be in control, leading by six points with under two-and-a-half minutes to play. But the Lynx went cold at the worst possible time, and Washington closed the game on a 12-0 run to steal the win. The Mystics outscored Minnesota 28-19 in the fourth quarter to flip the result.
Olivia Miles paced the Lynx with 22 points, adding six assists and five rebounds, while Natasha Howard finished with 20 points on 9-of-15 shooting and grabbed six boards. Courtney Williams chipped in 13 and Kayla McBride added 12, but the rest of the roster combined for just 14 points.
The offense stalled in part because of a rough night from the perimeter. Minnesota connected on only four of its 21 three-point attempts, a 19% clip, and was beaten badly at the free-throw line — Washington attempted 29 foul shots to the Lynx’s 14.
Sonia Citron led four Mystics in double figures with 21 points, drawing eight trips to the line. Kiki Iriafen added 17 points and seven rebounds, and Cotie McMahon scored 15 on a perfect four-for-four from three-point range. Washington’s bench outscored Minnesota’s reserves 26-7.
The loss snapped a three-game winning streak and dropped the Lynx to 13-4 on the season. The two teams meet again quickly, with Minnesota traveling to Washington for a rematch Wednesday, June 24th. Tip-off is set for 6:30 p.m.
