Detroit Lakes, MN (KDLM) – The Minnesota Twins left nine runners on base in a 2-1 loss to the Houston Astros Tuesday night at Target Field.

Zebby Matthews surrendered a two-run home run in the top of the first inning, and Minnesota trailed the rest of the way. Matthews was charged with his first loss of the season. Josh Bell drove in the Twins’ only run.

The loss dropped Minnesota to 22-27, leaving the club in third place in the AL Central. Joe Ryan is scheduled to start against Houston today.

In roster news, the Twins optioned infielder Royce Lewis to Triple-A St. Paul on Tuesday. The 2017 first-overall draft pick has struggled at the plate this season, hitting .163 with three home runs and 13 RBIs in 31 games. Lewis has not matched the production of his strong 2023 campaign.

The team also placed catcher Ryan Jeffers on the 10-day injured list with a hamate fracture.
