A major funding boost is moving the Wannigan Regional Park development in Frazee one step closer to completion.

The State of Minnesota has approved funding for the River North Drive improvements, including pavement, a multi-use trail, and water and sewer infrastructure connected to the park area.

Frazee Community Development President Polly Andersen says the group applied for 2.45 million dollars, received 1.85 million dollars and says the leadership team is confident they can raise the remaining 600-thousand dollars through additional grant opportunities.

Andersen called the funding “monumental” for Frazee, saying it is a vote of confidence from the State of Minnesota and an affirmation of the community’s vision for the future. She says the development will help create a first-class regional facility.

The effort is about more than infrastructure. The improvements are expected to provide safer access for children and families walking or biking to schools, ballfields, pickleball courts, and Wannigan Regional Park, while also supporting future growth and development in the area.

Andersen also thanked residents, legislators, and community partners who advocated for the funding effort throughout the process. “Frazee,” she said, “we did this together!”
