Otter Tail County Sheriff’s Office warns of scammers impersonating the sheriff’s office

Detroit Lakes, Minn. (KDLM) – Over the last couple weeks, Otter Tail County Sheriff’s Office has gotten numerous calls about scammers impersonating the sheriff’s office. 

In a social media post, the Otter Tail County Sheriff’s Office said the scammers are calling around the area stating sheriff’s office civil process division has tried to serve them papers at their residence, but were not successful, or that they have a loan that they have defaulted on and need to start paying.

The post added the scammers go on to say that they will be putting a judgement on the person’s property or that the person may have a warrant issued for their arrest.

The Otter Tail County Sheriff’s Office stated please ignore these phone calls and gave a reminder to never give out personal information over the phone.
