DETROIT LAKES (KDLM) – A proposed Elbow Lake RV park has been given the go-ahead by Becker County.
Commissioners approved the seasonal RV Park on Tuesday which will include 40 units and 6 boat slips with a full-time staff next to the Jolly Fisherman resort.
Commissioners had tabled the request in July after being hesitant to approve the request citing the density of units, lack of a firm business plan and wanting additional community input.
Joey Stahl of Amenia, N.D. who applied for the conditional use permit provided additional information and an updated proposal which included some concessions to try to ease concerns.
None-the-less, more than 60 residents on the lake asked for the permit to be denied. “The basic recommendation is to not approve the request, it has to do primarily with the proximity to the existing resort, the narrowness to the island, the lack of an adequate road and the possibility of uncontrollable flowing wells, said Reese Peterson, President of the Big Elbow, Juggler and Little Bemidji Lake Assocation.

Under the approved permit, the new RV park will be limited to 40 units and 6 boat slips. A full-time staff will be required on-site and the RV park will not allow day docking, jet skis or ballast boats including wake boats.
