Detroit Lakes, MN (KDLM) – The Vikings could be without starting quarterback Kyler Murray for their Week Nine showdown with the Buffalo Bills.
Murray is being evaluated for a sore hamstring that developed in Sunday’s 19-15 loss at Detroit, Minnesota’s first defeat of the season. Head coach Kevin O’Connell said Monday that it’s too early to know whether Murray’s availability will be affected, and that the team remains committed to him as its starter. Asked if the injury puts Murray’s status in question, O’Connell said, “I don’t think we’re there yet.”
Murray finished Sunday’s game and played down the injury afterward, saying it came up late and “didn’t really hamper anything today.” He completed 17 of 29 passes for 210 yards, with two touchdowns and an interception. He also led the Vikings in rushing, with 35 yards on four carries.
Carson Wentz is next in line if Murray can’t play. Wentz threw three touchdown passes in relief of Murray in the 39-22 season-opening win over Green Bay, after Murray left with a concussion. He then started the following week’s 9-3 win at Chicago.
A clearer picture could come Thursday, when the Vikings are scheduled to release their first practice injury report of the week. Both teams are 6-1 heading into the 7:15 p.m. kickoff next Monday, November 9th, at U.S. Bank Stadium.
