Detroit Lakes , MN (KDLM)- There are a confirmed 80 measles cases in Minnesota right now. The Minnesota Department of Health is reporting that the state is dealing with its highest total of measles cases in one single year since 1990, and that most of them are in Todd County in central Minnesota.
All but two Minnesotans who have measles have not received two doses for the MMR (measles, mumps and rubella) vaccine. 71 percent of the measles cases involve children under 18 years old. Mayo Clinic says that symptoms for measles include a runny nose, red and watery eyes, dry cough, fever, and rash.
A media release from the DOH says there are several cases coming from people who have traveled within the United States. Health officials expect to see more cases in Minnesota in the next weeks and months.
