Detroit Lakes, MN (KDLM) – The Minnesota Wild scored three times in the third period to pull away from the Washington Capitals, winning 5-1 Sunday afternoon in D.C.
Quinn Hughes opened the scoring in the first period, and Michael McCarron followed with what proved to be the game-winning goal, giving Minnesota a 2-0 lead at the first intermission.
Justin Sourdif got the Capitals on the board in the second period to make it 2-1, but Washington wouldn’t get any closer.

Minnesota went 2-for-5 on the power play and killed off Washington’s only chance with the man advantage. The Wild also held Capitals star Alex Ovechkin without a point and narrowly outshot Washington 29-27.
The Wild have won four of their last five games and improved to 10-3-3, which puts them first in the Central Division.
