Detroit Lakes, MN (KDLM) – The Minnesota Timberwolves suffered their first loss of the season Monday night, falling to the Cleveland Cavaliers 127-125 in overtime.

Anthony Edwards led all scorers with 47 points, hitting 19 of 34 shots from the field, including five 3-pointers. He added four rebounds, four assists and two steals.

Rudy Gobert pulled down 20 rebounds, eight of them on the offensive end, though he was held to five points. Terrence Shannon Jr. and Jaden McDaniels each scored 14, and Joan Beringer went a perfect 6-for-6 from the floor for 12 points. Jonathan Kuminga recorded a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds. LaMelo Ball finished with 11 points and six assists, but also committed seven turnovers. McDaniels fouled out.

Minnesota led by as many as 15 points, but mistakes proved costly. The Wolves turned the ball over 18 times, and Cleveland turned those giveaways into 19 points. The Cavaliers also hit 18 3-pointers to Minnesota’s 13, while the Wolves made just 14 of 23 free throws. Minnesota controlled the paint, outscoring Cleveland 60-44 inside and winning the rebounding battle 66-60.

Donovan Mitchell led the Cavaliers with 26 points and seven assists. James Harden added 19 points and nine assists, Evan Mobley had 18 points and 10 rebounds, and Meleek Thomas made four of his five 3-point attempts on his way to 16 points.

The loss ends a three-game winning streak to open the season, which included wins over Miami, Orlando and Toronto. Minnesota is now 3-1.

The Wolves return home to host the Golden State Warriors Wednesday at 7:00 p.m. at Target Center, then welcome the LA Clippers on Friday.
