Nine City Council Candidates Take Part in Forum

Detroit Lakes , MN (KDLM)-

All nine candidates for Detroit Lakes City Council took part in a candidate forum Tuesday night hosted by the Detroit Lakes Area League of Women Voters.

Candidates answered questions prepared by the League, as well as questions submitted by those attending the forum.

Topics included affordable housing, giving residents a voice in city government, transparency, taxes, and keeping national and state political divisions out of local government.

Candidates also discussed roadblocks to attracting and expanding businesses, monitoring projects that receive city subsidies, and the impact of short-term rentals in Detroit Lakes.

Candidates for Ward 1 are Lindsey Cooksey and Shaun Carlson.

Ward 2 candidates are Zachary Foltz and Marga Ybarra.

Ward 3 candidates are Matt Boeke and Natalie Bly.

The three Alderman At-Large candidates are Celeste Koppe, Thomas Klyve and Jaimie Deraney. Two At-Large seats are being filled.

The League of Women Voters has also hosted forums featuring Detroit Lakes School Board and Becker County candidates. All three forums can be viewed on the League’s YouTube channel, Lakes Area League and Friends.
