A longtime Detroit Lakes business is undergoing a major remodel, as Bergen’s Garden Center in Detroit Lakes prepares for a new chapter after more than a century of family history.

Owner Chris Bergen says the renovation involves some of the oldest areas of the Detroit Lakes Garden Center, including the workroom, coal bin and cooler, which date back to the company’s early years.
Bergen says the project is essentially starting from scratch. Demolition is complete, with footings expected to be set next week.
He says the remodel will bring a tremendous change to the facility, including an entirely new checkout area and a redesigned interior.
The newly remodeled Garden Center, located at 801 Willow Street W, in Detroit Lakes, is expected to open its doors in April 2027, ushering in an exciting new chapter for the family business.
