Detroit Lakes, MN (KDLM) – The Minnesota Lynx dropped their second game in a row Monday night, falling to the Connecticut Sun 90-89 at Target Center in a game that came down to the final possession.
Kayla McBride led all Lynx scorers with 28 points, shooting 10 for 19 from the field, including 4 for 8 from three-point range. Courtney Williams added 23 points and six assists, and Natasha Howard chipped in 18 points on 6 for 10 shooting.
The game was tight from start to finish. Connecticut led by as many as nine points, while Minnesota’s largest lead was only two. The Sun took a 48-44 edge into halftime and led 70-66 after three quarters before the Lynx clawed back with a 23-20 fourth quarter push that fell just one point short.
Brittney Griner paced Connecticut with a double-double, scoring 29 points and grabbing 10 rebounds. Kennedy Burke added 16 points, and Leila Lacan scored 13 off the bench for the Sun, who got 27 total bench points in the win.
The loss is Minnesota’s second straight, following a 99-86 setback at New York on Friday. The Lynx still sit near the top of the Western Conference standings at 15 and 6 on the season.
Minnesota gets a quick shot at revenge Wednesday, July 8th, when the Lynx travel to Uncasville, Connecticut for a rematch with the Sun. Tip-off is set for 6:30 p.m.
