Detroit Lakes, MN (KDLM) – The Minnesota Twins closed out their series at Yankee Stadium with a 6-1 win over the New York Yankees on Sunday afternoon, riding a dominant start from right-hander Joe Ryan.
Ryan tossed seven scoreless innings, scattering three hits and a walk while striking out nine Yankees batters to earn the win. Andrew Morris worked around a scoreless eighth inning out of the bullpen before Yoendrys Gómez surrendered New York’s only run of the day in the ninth.
Minnesota’s offense backed him up with a 12-hit attack. Shortstop Brooks Lee went three for five with a double and an RBI, third baseman Royce Lewis added two hits, including a double, and drove in two runs, and outfielder Austin Martin went two for five with a double, two runs scored and an RBI.
The Twins spread their scoring across four innings, plating a run in the first, adding another in the fourth, and breaking the game open with two runs apiece in the fifth and sixth.
Ryan Weathers took the loss for New York, allowing four earned runs over four innings.
With the win, Minnesota has now won three of its last four games. The Twins return home to open a three-game series against the Cleveland Guardians at Target Field on Tuesday, July 7th at 6:40 p.m.
