Micah Ailie. (Becker County Jail)
Detroit Lakes, MN – A Detroit Lakes man has been accused of assaulting his father with a 10-foot-long pipe.
Prosecutors say that on June 29th, 43-year-old Micah Scott Ailie was confronted by his father over a missing chainsaw, but Ailie became very upset. The two of them argued, and at one point, Ailie grabbed an aluminum pipe that was approximately 10 feet long and shoved it into his father’s chest with both hands and pushed him backward. When speaking with the victim officers observed distinct, dark colored marks on the victim’s chest.
According to court documents, the father eventually got the pipe away from Ailie, but when he went searching for his phone, he saw Ailie damaging the phone with a weed cutting hand scythe. The next day, the father reported that Ailie was in his basement, and officers came and arrested him.
Prosecutors say that officers found a glass pipe on Ailie, and he told them that he had been using methamphetamine to substitute his prescribed ADHD medication because it was cheaper. Ailie denied striking his father, telling police that he had been searching for the missing chainsaw on his property, but his father had been in the way, so he used the pipe to move him.
Ailie made his first court appearance Thursday morning and has been charged with 2nd degree assault and criminal damage to property.
