Detroit Lakes , MN (KDLM) – The Minnesota Timberwolves came away from the 2026 NBA Draft with a pair of second-round prospects, adding Duke guard Isaiah Evans and Purdue forward Trey Kaufman-Renn during Wednesday night’s second round at Barclays Center.
Evans, a sophomore, was officially selected 33rd overall by the Brooklyn Nets, but his draft rights are headed to Minnesota. The Wolves set up the move earlier in the week, trading forward Julius Randle and the 28th pick to Brooklyn in exchange for the 33rd selection. The Nets used the 28th pick on Iowa State forward Joshua Jefferson. The trade is expected to be finalized at a later date.
Evans started all 38 games for the Blue Devils this past season, averaging 15 points and shooting 36.1% from three-point range. He scored a career-high 32 points against Florida State in the ACC Tournament and helped Duke reach the Elite Eight, where the Blue Devils fell to UConn.
He steps into a Minnesota guard rotation that already includes Anthony Edwards, Mike Conley, Terrance Shannon Jr. and recently re-signed Ayo Dosunmu, who agreed to a five-year, $112 million contract. With Donte DiVincenzo expected to miss much of the coming season after a torn Achilles, Evans could find early opportunities for minutes off the bench.
With the 59th overall pick, the Timberwolves selected Kaufman-Renn, a senior forward who spent four seasons at Purdue. He averaged 14.2 points and 8.3 rebounds while shooting 57.8% from the field in his final year, and capped his college career with a game-winning tip-in that sent the Boilermakers to the Elite Eight. Scouts have praised his interior scoring and physicality, though his limited outside shooting remains a question at the next level.
The two picks followed a busy stretch for Minnesota’s front office, which reshaped its roster in the days leading up to the draft. The Timberwolves have reached the playoffs in each of the last five seasons.
