DETROIT LAKES (KDLM) – Detroit Lakes municipal liquor store, Lakes Liquor had a banner year in 2020.

The liquor store which is the 8th largest municipal liquor store in the state raked in nearly $9 million in alcohol sales ($8,900,731.05) in 2020, an almost $1.5 million increase in sales from 2019.

Randy Buhr, Detroit Lakes Liquor Store Manager says the store broke a single day sales record on July 3 selling around $94,000 in beer and liquor which equates to a profit for the city of over $25,000.

The store also had a record number of customers at just over 280,000 (280,529) helped by the state’s closure of indoor dining at bars and restaurants multiple times throughout the year in an effort to curb the spread of COVID-19.
