Detroit Lakes, Minn. (KDLM) – The Detroit Lakes’ volleyball team won in straight sets against Park Rapids at the Lakeshirts Fieldhouse on Thursday night, with scores of 25-16, 25-14, and 25-17, bringing their overall record to 17-4.

Grace Gunderson led the Lakers’ attack with 11 kills and seven aces.

Despite the Panthers’ comeback attempts, the Lakers managed to secure the win by taking early leads in all three sets.

According to Laker coach Rachel Solum, there is still room for improvement during the match.

Solum said: “A win is a win, but it was not our best performance. I felt like we let too many balls drop that we’re usually right there ready for.”

On Monday night, the Lakers will face Rocori in Cold Spring, who are currently in first place in the section standings and hold a record of 14-0 overall and 6-0 in the section after beating Alexandria in straight sets last night.

Solum acknowledged the challenge that the Spartans would bring and emphasized that the Lakers would have to match their intensity.

Solum said: “They (ROCORI) are going to be ready to play, and we have to match the intensity that they will have. It will be a fun game, and I hope we regroup from this and have a better game on Monday.”
