Crookston Shuts Out Laker Girls Hockey On Senior Night, 9-0

DETROIT LAKES, MN (KDLM) – Crookston’s Cassie Solheim finished with a five-point night leading the Pirates to victory on Monday night 9-0 at the Kent Freeman Arena in Detroit Lakes.

Solheim had four assists and one goal to give the Pirates their 15th victory. Crookston is now 15-5-2 overall and 7-2 in section play this year. The Lakers fall to 3-20 and are now 2-5 in section games.

The Pirates scored the game’s first goal at the 2:56 mark of the first period when Taylor Field tapped in a rebound goal. Crookston added another goal 17 seconds later when Solheim shot the puck from a long distance, beating Laker goalie Talyn Anderson. Anderson finished the game with 49 saves. The Pirates chipped in two more goals before the end of the first period to take a 4-0 lead into the first intermission.

The Pirates added three more goals in the second period, with defenseman Reese Swanson scoring two of the three goals. Despite being behind throughout the game, Detroit Lakes played hard and had a couple of good scoring chances in the second period on rushes. Crookston goalie Kailee Magsam made 15 saves to earn the shutout.

The Pirates scored two more goals in the third period when Taylor Field found the back of the net twice to earn a hat-trick.

Before the game, the Lakers also honored their seniors with an on-ice ceremony and recognized the senior parents. Detroit Lakes is graduating three players from this year’s team. The three seniors are Ivy Geffre, Morgan Kvebak, and Rhett Zima.

The Lakers will have their final regular season game on Thursday night when they travel to East Grand Forks to play the Green Wave (7-14).
