Detroit Lakes, MN (KDLM) – The Laker boys basketball team fell to the Alexandria Cardinals on Tuesday night 73-51. With the win, Alexandria improved their winning streak to 10 in a row and is now 10-1 overall.
The Lakers hung with the Cardinals in the first half and briefly led in the final five minutes. Brandton Marsh led the Lakers in scoring in the first half, chipping in nine points before the break. The Cardinals spread the offense around in the first half, with all their starters scoring points. Grayson Grove for Alexandria had eight points at halftime and was the favorite target for the Cardinals in the low post.
The Cardinals led the Lakers 34-25 going into the second half and began to pull away. The Cardinals had nine players on the scoresheet and continued with their balanced offense in the second half. The Lakers had some big three-pointers, but it wasn’t enough to get back into the game.
The Lakers shot 41% from the field and 24% from beyond the arc. Detroit Lakes was led by Marsh, who finished the game with 16 points. Mason Carrier finished the night with a double-double with 14 points and 11 rebounds.
The Lakers fall to 8-6 overall and are now 3-2 in section play. Detroit Lakes does not have another game against a section opponent during the regular season. The Lakers will return to action on Thursday night when they travel to Staples to take on the Cardinals.
