DETROIT LAKES (KDLM) – The annual tradition of jumping into the ice cold waters of lake Detroit known as the Polar Fest Plunge will be celebrating their 27th year on February 25.
The Polar Fest Plunge, a fundraiser for the Boys & Girls Club of Detroit Lakes gives residents and vacationers a chance to plunge to help support the Club to provide services to local youth. Those who would like to participate can pay a $50 fee to jump, but Patrick Petermann, Executive Director at the Boys & Girls Club of Detroit Lakes says finding others to support you is an even better option, “A big way to raise money is to go out and get sponsorships, people to give five, ten, fifty, one hundred dollars.”
Jumpers can earn great incentives including t-shirts, post-party plunge VIP tickets with October Road and other great prizes by hitting a variety of pledge levels.
“If you go to our website, bgcdl.org you’ll see all the incentives, one of the biggest incentives is our after plunge party. Last year we had Tigerlily play, this year we’ll have October Road. People who raise a certain level earn passes to that party, but one thing we’re going to do this year is provide 50 tickets at $50 a piece for anyone who doesn’t want to jump, but wants to enjoy October Road,” said Petermann.
The Polar Fest Plunge begins at 1 p.m. on Little Detroit Lake on Saturday, February 25. For more information or to sign-up to take the plunge visit the Detroit Lakes Boys & Girls Club website.
