DETROIT LAKES (KDLM) – Becker County residents with outdated or failing septic systems could be eligible for a grant to help cover the cost of a new system.

Becker County was awarded a grant from the Clean Water Fund which can be used to replace eligible systems.

Low income households with an existing septic system that has been deemed non-compliant are eligible to apply, “The grant will pay 50% of the cost of the system, up to $7,500, but if your income is low enough it could cover the cost of the majority of the system upgrade,” said Brian Malone with the Becker County Soil and Water Conservation District.

Interested homeowners can submit a Financial Assistance Application to the Becker Soil and Water Conservation District (SWCD) at www.co.becker.mn.us/dept/soil_water/
