WATCH: MAHUBE-OTWA Community Needs Assessment: Who to Call in an Emergency

Jul 14, 2022 | 12:11 PM

DETROIT LAKES (KDLM) – MAHUBE-OTWA, a Community Action Agency that provides services and resources to help residents fight poverty in the area has created a series of videos to help highlight findings from their latest Community Needs Assessment.

The assessment gathered vital information in the Spring of 2021 from service recipients, stakeholders and staff from the five county area the organization serves: Mahnomen, Hubbard, Becker, Otter Tail and Wadena.

The organization plans to release videos each month to highlight the needs and what MAHUBE-OTWA is doing to help those in need become self-sufficient members of society.

This month, MAHUBE-OTWA is focusing on who residents can call in case of an emergency, finding that 60% of low-income people in the Lakes Area have less than 4 people they can count on. This finding suggests that those with low-income may have a harder time getting through tough times without strong social support.
