Feb 9, 2022 | 9:52 AM

DETROIT LAKES (KDLM) – Eleven nonprofits in Detroit Lakes are coming together for one of the biggest charity days in the area.

Giving Hearts Day, a 24 hour fundraising event begins Thursday. Since 2008 more than $112 million have been raised and 100% of the funds go directly to help participating charities.

This year in Detroit Lakes, the Humane Society of the Lakes, Boys and Girls Club of Detroit Lakes, Detroit Mountain, Essentia Health St. Mary’s Foundation, Friends of Tamarac, Health Resources, Holy Rosary School, Lakes Crisis & Resource Center, Lend A Hand Up , The Fuller Center for Housing, and Minnesota Flyers Gymnastics are participating.

Britton Ramsay with Health Resources says this event is a way for nonprofits to help fund their missions, “Each organization that participates has their own mission, so Giving Hearts Day is a platform…so everyone is able to fund their mission and further what they’re doing.”

Donations, which are matched by the Dakota Medical Foundation can be made at GivingHeartsDay.org or in-person on Thursday, Feb. 10 from 10-1 p.m. at the Washington Square Mall.
