DETROIT LAKES (KDLM) – Detroit Lakes Public Utilities (DLPU) is warning residents about a scam that has hit the Lakes Area.
Customers have called DLPU and reported receiving calls from someone claiming to be a DLPU billing employee. The scammer then tells customers that they had overpaid their utility bill and ask for their banking information to provide a refund.
DLPU says they will never call asking for banking information and that if you receive a call like this to hang up and call the city directly.
