LONG PRAIRIE (KDLM) – The Detroit Lakes Lakers were on the road Tuesday night with a trip to Long Prairie for what turned out to be 2 matches for the Lakers.
Detroit Lakes first wrestled the Minnewaska Area Lakers and fell behind 14-0, before Cole Weber got Detroit Lakes in the win column with a regular decision. By the time we hit the 152lb weight class, Detroit lakes was down 28-3. At 152, Tyson Ullyot moved down from 145lb and earned a pinfall win at 1:43 to start a Detroit Lakes rally in which Detroit Lakes won 6 of 7 weight classes, including Jacob Ernert who moved down from 220 to HWT and pinned the Minnewaska Area wrestler to win the match at 39-33. The match was tied at 33 heading into that HWT match.
Then the Lakers wrestled the Fergus Falls Otters and fell behind again, this time 9-0, then won 9 of the 11 weight classes that had a decision for Detroit Lakes winning 52-21 to win both matches at Long Prairie. Detroit Lakes matchup against Long Prairie-Grey Eagle/Browerville was cancelled, as these 2 teams just wrestled each other. Detroit Lakes wrestles in their conference meet in Staples on Friday January 21.
The Lakers return to KRCQ on Thursday February 3 with a home Tri-angular at 5pm.
