Janke’s Sew & Vac Relocating

DETROIT LAKES (KDLM) – Janke’s Sew & Vac will soon be closing their business on Washington Ave., but they’re not going out of business and they’ll reopen in a very familiar location.

The business, which has been located at 607 Washington Ave. in Detroit Lakes since 1993 will move to a smaller location at 525 Washington Ave., the store front they called home for four years in the late 80s and early 90s. Why the move? Jeff Janke, the store owner says, it’s the steps, “I’m having total knee replacement in April, so this was a good opportunity to downsize and move to a smaller location where I don’t have steps.”

Janke’s surgery is scheduled for April 19, the business will then temporarily close and relocate – if Janke’s rehabilitation goes as planned, the business will reopen 6 to 8 weeks later.

When they reopen, the business will still do what it has always done, but on a smaller scale, “selling new and used vacuum cleaners, sewing machines and service – we sell quality vacuums and sewing machines, not the big discounter stuff.”

And that quality has gained Janke a loyal following in the Lakes Area, “A lot of people spend a lot of money buying throw away stuff and then when there is service on them there is no one to take care of them – we give the service that people deserve.”

Many of Janke’s loyal customers are preparing for the temporary closure by stocking up on vacuum bags, but now is also a good time to buy other items as the store begins a liquidation sale in their current location.
