DETROIT LAKES (KDLM) – More than 15,000 residents of Becker and Otter Tail County have filed for unemployment benefits since the COVID-19 pandemic began in March, 2020.

The high unemployment rate has meant a lot of job seekers are utilizing the programs at Rural Minnesota CEP for the first time.

Kelly Nowell, a team leader at CEP says the agency has been busy during the last 9 months and they’re a great first step for any potential job seeker, “All our services are free, you can use our computers, we’ll help you create a resume, our counselors will look over and critique your resume and help you practice interviewing before you go to an employer.”

Nowell says one of the most important things for job seekers to do is update your resume. “Get your work history down, what did you do at that those jobs, did you have any promotions – and we will help you put it together.”
