Detroit Lakes Boys Hockey Beats Kittson County Central for their First Win

DETROIT LAKES (KDLM) – The Laker boys hockey team earned their first win dominantly on Saturday afternoon at the Kent Freeman Arena, beating Kittson County Central 7-0. The Lakers, who fell in their first two games of the season, were able to get back on track against the Bearcats, who entered play on Saturday with a perfect 3-0 record.

Detroit Lakes was able to jump out to a 2-0 lead in the first period and added three in the second period and two goals in the third period. In the victory, Detroit Lakes got offense from their second and third line and had two goals from their defenseman. Elijah Denardo scored his first career varsity goal and assisted fellow defenseman Jacob Thomas’s goal. The Lakers also got two goals from Breck Winter, all coming in the third period. Ben Hines, Carter Bellefeuille, and Spencer Bergman also got goals for Detroit Lakes on Saturday.

Detroit Lakes goalie Elijah Blow picked up his first shutout and win of the season as he held Kittson County Central’s top scorer Tyler Hennen off the score sheet. The Lakers outshot the Bearcats 45-14 in the winning effort.

The win moves Detroit Lakes’ record to 1-2 on the season, and they are now 1-1 in Section 8A games.
Next up, Detroit Lakes will host another Section 8A opponent when Park Rapids comes to town on Tuesday evening. Park Rapids will enter play on Tuesday with a record of 2-1 after defeating South St. Paul on Saturday 5-3.
