DETROIT LAKES (KDLM) – The Laker football team picked up their biggest win of the season on Wednesday night, beating Dilworth-Glyndon-Felton 42-29. That win was enough to move the Lakers out of a play-in game and secure the number three seed in the Section 8AAAA playoffs that begin next week.
Detroit Lakes and St. Cloud Apollo went into the final week with uncertainty. The problem with playing the play-in game is that teams would then have to play two games in one week, with the next game being against the top team in the section and one of the top teams in the state, that team being Becker. In the eyes of the QRF ranking, the Lakers had more QRF points after their win against DGF.
The Lakers will play the number two seeded ROCORI Spartans on Saturday at 1 pm.
Over the last five years, Detroit Lakes is 2-3 against the Spartans. The last time the Lakers and Spartans met was in 2019 when Detroit Lakes lost to them in the Section 8AAAA championship game 14-6. That year the Spartans won the state tournament beating SMB 22-21.
The Lakers enter the playoffs with an overall record of 5-3. The Spartans also enter the playoffs with a record of 5-3.
KDLM will broadcast the game on October 30th, with our pregame coverage beginning at 12:30 pm.
Section 8AAAA Playoff matchups:
#5 Little Falls @ #4 St. Cloud Apollo on Tuesday, October 26th at 7 pm
#3 Detroit Lakes @ #2 ROCORI on Saturday, October 30th at 1 pm
#5 Little Falls/#4 St. Cloud Apollo @ #1 Becker Saturday, October 30th at 1 pm
