DETROIT LAKES (KDLM) – The Dilworth Glyndon Felton Rebels used their experience to pick up their first win of the season against the youthful Detroit Lakes Lakers, beating DL in straight sets 25-19, 25-22, and 25-14.
Despite a young roster, Detroit Lakes kept it competitive in the first two sets. The Lakers were led by outside hitters Jalynn Gunderson and Grace Gunderson in the scoring department. Detroit Lakes also had good contributions from their setter Kiah Gloege. The intensity of the near-capacity DGF crowd boosted the Rebels in the third and final set, propelling them to victory.
The Lakers entered play with only four returners on their team after graduating eight seniors. Out of the four returners from last year’s team, the Lakers could only suit up Jalynn Gunderson and Grace Gunderson. Ava Jones and Lauren Kaiser were out due to injuries. Kaiser is out for the season after suffering a shoulder injury, and Jones is week to week.
The Rebels came out with nine seniors and two juniors, all of which saw playing time on Tuesday night for their first win of the season.
Detroit Lakes falls to 0-1 on the season and will return to action on Thursday when they host Bemidji at 7:30 pm at the Ralph Anderson Gymnasium. Bemidji is 1-1 on the season after beating Winona Cotter 3-2 and falling to Alexandria 3-1
