Detroit Lakes , MN (KDLM/Learfield)- The Minnesota Department of Health is reporting a third straight year of declining opioid overdose deaths. New data shows there were 671 opioid-related deaths in 2025, which is down from the 1,039 in 2022. Although, deaths from all drug overdoses increased three percent last year, and these were driven by a rise in stimulant-related deaths. The state has also launched a new alert system that uses ambulance data to spot overdose spikes and notify local and tribal health officials so they can respond sooner.
