Detroit Lakes , MN (KDLM/Learfield)- Governor Tim Walz and state officials say that Minnesota has become the fourth state in the nation to end veteran homelessness. Veteran homelessness has dropped in Minnesota by 55 percent in 2023, and chronic veteran homelessness has gone down by 96 percent. Governor Tim Walz credits the state’s partnerships among Minnesota agencies, local governments, nonprofits and the VA. Walz says this does not mean that homelessness in Minnesota is completely eliminated, but that the state has created a system to prevent housing crises and quickly connect veterans experiencing homelessness with permanent housing.
