Detroit Lakes , MN (KDLM) – The Minnesota Twins ended a four-game losing streak Sunday afternoon, beating the Chicago White Sox 5-1 at Target Field.
Right-hander Zebby Matthews did most of the work. He went eight and a third innings, allowed one run on five hits and struck out five to earn the win. Jeff Hoffman came on to get the final two outs.
Minnesota scored early and made its chances count, going three-for-four with runners in scoring position. Luke Keaschall homered and finished with two hits. Josh Bell and Trevor Larnach each drove in two runs, and Brooks Lee added two hits. The Twins outhit Chicago nine to six, and neither team committed an error.
The White Sox avoided the shutout in the ninth, when Braden Montgomery drove in Sam Antonacci.
The Twins host the Detroit Tigers tonight in the opener of a three-game series at Target Field. First pitch is 6:40 p.m.
