Twins Break It Open Late, Beat Orioles In Series Opener

Detroit Lakes, MN (KDLM) – The Minnesota Twins scored five runs in the seventh inning and beat the Baltimore Orioles 9-5 Monday night at Target Field, snapping a two-game losing streak.

Dean Kremer earned the win against his former team, holding the Orioles to one run on one hit over seven innings. He struck out seven, walked one and needed just 89 pitches.

Austin Martin led the offense, going four-for-five with a home run, a double and three runs scored. Josh Bell added a home run and three RBIs, and Ryan Jeffers drove in three more. Royce Lewis and Brooks Lee each collected two hits as Minnesota finished with 14 hits and no errors.

The decisive rally came in the seventh, when Baltimore reliever Rico Garcia allowed four runs on three hits without recording an out.

Orioles starter Trevor Rogers took the loss, giving up two runs on four hits over four innings with four strikeouts.

Baltimore trailed 7-1 through seven before pushing across two runs in the eighth against Travis Adams and two more in the ninth off Taylor Rogers. Coby Mayo had two hits and three RBIs for the Orioles, and Jackson Holliday added two hits.

Minnesota improves to 59-61 and sits second in the American League Central, three-and-a-half games behind the Chicago White Sox. Baltimore drops to 57-62.

The teams continue the three-game set tonight at 6:40 p.m. at Target Field and finish up Wednesday, August 12th, at 12:40 p.m.
