Vikings Sign Right Tackle Brian O’Neill To Four-Year Extension

Detroit Lakes, MN (KDLM) – The Minnesota Vikings have locked up one of the cornerstones of their offensive line.

The team announced Tuesday that right tackle Brian O’Neill signed a four-year contract extension that keeps him in Minnesota through the 2030 season. The announcement came on the day veteran players reported for training camp at the TCO Performance Center in Eagan.

The Vikings did not release financial terms. ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports the deal is worth up to $96 million, an average of roughly $24 million per season that would make O’Neill the 10th highest paid offensive tackle in the league.

O’Neill was entering what amounted to the final season of the five-year, $92.5 million extension he signed in 2021. His lack of participation in offseason workouts had been tied to his desire for a new contract, and the deal was finalized by first-year general manager Nolan Teasley on the eve of camp.

A second-round pick out of Pittsburgh in 2018, O’Neill took over the starting right tackle job partway through his rookie year and has started 120 of the 124 games he has played for the Vikings. He earned Pro Bowl selections in 2021 and 2024. He turns 31 on September 15th and enters his ninth season as the longest tenured player on the roster.

With left tackle Christian Darrisaw signed through 2029, Minnesota now has both starting tackle spots under contract for the next several years.

Peterson Ring Of Honor Date Set

The Vikings also announced Tuesday that Adrian Peterson’s Ring of Honor induction will take place November 9th, when Minnesota hosts the Buffalo Bills on Monday Night Football at U.S. Bank Stadium. Peterson was named the 2026 inductee back in May.

Peterson will become the 29th member of the Ring of Honor. The No. 7 overall pick in the 2007 draft out of Oklahoma, he spent 10 seasons in Minnesota and remains the franchise’s all-time leader in carries with 2,418, rushing yards with 11,747, and rushing touchdowns with 97.

His 2012 season stands as one of the most remarkable individual campaigns in league history. Less than nine months after tearing his ACL and MCL, Peterson rushed for 2,097 yards, finishing eight yards short of Eric Dickerson’s single-season record and winning NFL MVP honors.

Peterson made seven Pro Bowls and earned four first-team All-Pro selections during his time with the Vikings. He finished his career with 14,918 rushing yards and 120 touchdowns across stops in New Orleans, Arizona, Washington, Detroit, Tennessee, and Seattle. He becomes eligible for the Pro Football Hall of Fame for the first time in 2027, and the November ceremony gives the organization a national television stage to honor him ahead of that vote.
