Detroit Lakes , MN (KDLM) – The Minnesota Lynx return to the court tomorrow night carrying the best record in the WNBA and coming off an All-Star weekend that put three of their players on the national stage.
Team Spoon took down Team Coop 129-122 in Saturday’s All-Star Game at the United Center in Chicago, played in front of a record crowd of 19,783. New York Liberty center Jonquel Jones was named MVP after finishing with 22 points, 13 rebounds, and eight assists.
The Lynx were well represented. Rookie guard Olivia Miles earned her first All-Star nod and nearly made history, posting a double-double with 11 points and 12 rebounds to go with eight assists, leaving her two assists short of what would have been just the second triple-double in the game’s history. Guard Courtney Williams added 12 points and seven assists off the bench. Both played for Team Spoon, coached by Lynx head coach Cheryl Reeve.
Forward Natasha Howard, a starter for Team Coop, chipped in eight points. Howard and Williams each earned their third career All-Star selection this season.
Minnesota heads into the second half of the season with a league-best 22-6 record, the top mark in the Western Conference. The team stayed hot right up to the break, beating the Seattle Storm 86-76 on July 22nd behind 24 points from Napheesa Collier, who has settled back into the lineup after offseason ankle surgery.
The Lynx return to the hardwood when they host the expansion Toronto Tempo tomorrow at Target Center. Tip-off is set for 7:00 p.m. Toronto comes in at 10-16, fifth in the Eastern Conference.
